The significance of objects. Part I

I have been thinking about objects; those most precious to us and their significance in our lives. What is it that makes them so comforting; so significant? Here are a few thoughts I have had around this…

Objects allow us to feel connected. Connected to experience, to memory, to the intangible. Connected to the unknown. They connect us to each other and the world around us. Connect us not only to the living, but also the dead.

Objects are an anchor; a weight in a shifting existence. They give an assuredness in their physicality; you can see them, feel them, know them. It is this physicality that embodies a realism and sense of permanence in what is an intangible, undefined and impermanent world and existence. There is a comfort in their physical and material presence; a stability and certainty in their ability to remain constant and still.
